Tonight for dinner we had Indian food…. and not just any Indian food- Naan… HOMEMADE Garlic Naan!!! (Yes, I’m a little proud of myself) The thing about naan (besides being seriously delicious) is that it’s almost impossible to make at home. The reason for this is that it’s supposed to be made in a tandoori oven (pretty much an extremely hot, clay oven) No, I didn’t talk hubbs into buying me one, but I do have the coolest mom EVER and she came up with an idea for our own make-shift tandoor. I used a clay pizza stone on our BBQ and had (according to hubbs, chachaji, & Uncle Kai) awesome results!

1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
3 tbsp white sugar
3 tbsp milk
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp salt
4 cups bread flour
1 tbsp minced garlic
1/2 cup butter, melted
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then mix in sugar, milk, egg, salt, & flour. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Set the dough aside in a well oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let rise for 90 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Next, knead in the minced garlic and separate/shape the dough into balls. Then, let those puppies rise some more… but only for about 30 minutes this time. They should double in size again and look something like this–

While they were rising the second time, I started up the grill with the pizza stone on it. I tried to keep it as close to 500 F degrees as possible, but it was hard with all the opening and closing of the top lid. I smooshed each of my naan balls (hehe) out into tortilla like shapes and placed them on the stone.

After about 2 minutes, cover the uncooked top with melted butter, flip, then cover the cooked side with melted butter. (I know it’s a lot of butter, but it’s beyond worth it… trust!) Cook the other side for 2 minutes and then ENJOY!
I decided that tonight was the perfect time for me to try and make Keema- (one of hubbs favorite Indian dishes) I mean, we needed something to eat with all that naan!!
I found a recipe here, but did a few of my own things. It turned out really good, even if it does have peas!
1 lb Ground Beef
2 Onions, diced (I cut one up in HUGE pieces to saute and minced one, because I don’t like the texture of onion, but NEEEEED the flavor.)
5 cloves of Garlic, minced
2 tsp of Ginger, minced
1 Cinnamon Stick
3 Cloves
1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
Salt
1 tsp. Turmeric Powder
1 tbsp Cumin Powder
1 tbsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
2 tbsp Plain Yogurt
3 tbsp Tomato Paste
1/2 cup Ghee or Cooking Oil (I used butter, but next time I am definitely going to try and make my own ghee!)
1 cup of water
Juice of half a lime
Lots and lots of peas!!

In a pot heat the oil. When it gets hot, add in the onions and saute to golden brown. Add in all spices and stir well. Add the tomato paste and yogurt, stir and saute on medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Add in the ground beef, mix well. Saute the beef for 2 minutes. Add 1 cup of water, mix and bring to a boil. Once it boils, lower the heat and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes or until beef is cooked.

When the ground beef is done add in the peas and lime juice, mix and simmer to heat. Eat it with garlic naan and love me forever!

Nope, no utensils needes.. that’s what the naan’s for!! ![]()
AND (If you can believe it) I even did all the dishes! Now I’m off to play Bejeweled Blitz on the earpod (aka my iPod touch)

Okay, this is my next at home recipe to try! Yumm, go you — looks delicious!
[...] am super inspired to tackle a new recipe and then others, not so much. I mean we all can’t be Moonstruck Mommy right : ) I’ll get there [...]
